Oil and Gas Industry Exposure to Secondary School Students

SPE-UTP-SC had organized a program to SMK Sultan Muzzafar Syah (I) on 30^th January 2010. The program started at 7.30 a.m. and ended at 1.00 p.m. This program was divided into 3 parts: Motivation Talk by AP Ismail Saaid; O&G Exposure Talk by Mr. Muhammad Sanif Maulut; and Sharing Session conducted by our SPE-UTP-SC committees. The objective of this program was to provide opportunity to the secondary students to be exposed to the Oil & Gas Industry and to motivate the students.

The motivational talk was given by Dr. Ismail Saaid to motivate and inspire students towards a better and brighter future. He began with explaining his family background before proceeding to his experiences in different learning stages until who he became now. He shared some of the tips on how to succeed in life as well as the secret behind his success. Besides, he also introduced and promoted UTP and SPE among secondary schools students.

The talk given by Mr. Muhammad Sanif Maulut was started with the introduction of oil and gas origin. Then he continues on explaining from the stages of extracting the hydrocarbon until it has been produced into all kind of end product. This talk had been ended with a brief introduction of Petroleum Engineers’ job scopes.

This secondary school talk was ended by a short sharing session between members of SPE-UTP-SC with the students. The purpose is to nurture the connection and transfer of knowledge between UTP students and secondary school students, as well as to generate a good relationship between both parties.

According to the comments forms distributed during this talk, 66% of the school students are interested to involve in oil and gas industry. As a conclusion, such activities should be continuously carried out in the future to cultivate and foster the interest and awareness of Oil & Gas Industry among the secondary school students.
